Overall Rating for Bioelements - Restorative Clay
(based on 2 reviews)
Decent clay mask, portion size small
By Kim from Milwaukee, WI on March 15, 2012
I'll compare this to the only other clay mask I've used - Mary Kay's Clarifying Mask.

The Bioelements product is nice, non irritating (Mary Kay's tends to irritate my skin mildly), and I believe it's fragrance free. The downside is the small portion size and the hefty price tag. Also, the product tends to flake as it dries. Still, it works. I don't apply as liberally as I have with the Mary Kay mask, due to the small 2.5 oz bottle. Also, it would be nice if this were a tube format rather than a jar to prevent contamination. My skin is sensitive, I have mild rosacea that I've learned to control, and my skin tends to be oily in the t zone. The mask is great at clearing out my pores. I prefer the thickness of the Mary Kay product as opposed to this one, and if I didn't have sensitive skin I'd stay with the Mary Kay. I'd recommend this product for those with sensitive skin, however.

I like the product, especially that it's non irritating to my sensitive skin, but would not purchase if it was not on sale.

Pros:
non irritating
fragrance free
clears up excess oils and sebum from pores
Cons:
small bottle
hefty price tag
tends to flake

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Ideal for sensitive skin and mild rosacea
By Kim from Milwaukee, WI on February 28, 2012
For comparison purposes, I'll note here that I've used Mary Kay's Clarifying Mask (for sensitive skin) in the past. I like the thickness of the product, the fact that it comes in a tube, but it does cause minor skin sensitivity to me probably due to the fragrance. Still, I can get by using this one.

I decided to try Bioelements Restorative Clay since it is fragrance free. I'll echo what I've read in other reviews - it doesn't go on as thick as the product I normally use, and it does tend to flake as it dries. Still, as long as it's pulling the oils from my skin I'm fine with that. I didn't apply it as liberally as I normally would considering you don't get a lot of product in this jar. I would like to see it in a tube packaging as that would make it easier to dispense and less room for contamination to the product. In terms of my skin, it left it clear and smooth without any irritation whatsoever. From that standpoint, it qualifies for four stars.

It falls short of the five star rating in my book due to the inconvenience of a jar packaging, and the small quantity for the big ticket item. I'll pay a premium for certain beauty items that are a priority in my book, but realistically I purchased this due to sale price and an online coupon promo code that I found giving me a further discount. I probably wouldn't purchase this in the future at full price.

Pros:
no irritation / truly fragrance free
ideal for rosacea and sensitive skin
left my complexion smooth and clear
Cons:
high ticket item
jar packaging - prefer a tube instead
small quantity for the price
product tends to flake as it dries, but I don't apply liberally due to high ticket price

I would recommend this item to a friend.
